You Don’t Have to Do All the Things
A gentle reminder for the pregnant mama who’s already doing so much.
If your to-do list feels like it’s multiplying every time you open Instagram, you’re not alone.
There’s so much out there about what you “should” be doing to get ready for birth—courses, workouts, perineal massage, red raspberry leaf tea, packing your bag at exactly 34 weeks… the list goes on and on.You might even be thinking, “Is Marlene a mind reader?” But that’s because I hear this all the time from the mamas who come to class.
It’s no wonder so many of us end up feeling overwhelmed (no judgment) before labor even begins.
But here’s something I want you to hear:
You don’t have to do ALL the things.
Not today. Not tomorrow. Not ever.
Birth prep isn’t about checking every box on a list.
It’s about choosing what supports you—your body, your nervous system, your heart, and your baby.
So, if you’re feeling pulled in a million directions, I want to offer something simple:
Try this instead:
Ask yourself:
“What would feel helpful today?”
That’s it.
Not what’s urgent. Not what someone else is doing.
Just: What would feel helpful—for me, right now?
Maybe it’s going for a walk.
Maybe it’s listening to your favorite meditation.
Maybe it’s putting your phone down and taking three slow breaths.
Maybe it’s resting. (Yes, that counts too.)
Whatever it is, let it be enough—even if it’s just for today.
Because you’re already doing the most important thing of all—growing a whole human. And that takes more energy, love, and presence than any checklist ever could.
And just in case no one’s said it lately—
You’re allowed to slow down and move at your own pace, mama.
Thanks for being here today—for yourself.
— xoxo Marlene
